This week, students packed Zecco Auditorium to hear from two-time Stanley Cup champion , who shared his powerful journey of overcoming addiction. The event marked the launch of a new speaker series hosted by the Athletic Department, bringing impactful voices to campus. Paxton’s sponsored the event.

Stevens, a dominant power forward, spent over 15 seasons in the NHL, most notably with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played 10 seasons, including at both the start and end of his career. His time in the league also included stints with the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, and Philadelphia Flyers. He was also a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team.

In 2018, Stevens founded , a non-profit dedicated to helping individuals struggling with addiction. His personal experience with substance abuse and recovery fuels his mission to support others facing similar battles.

“I didn’t know I had a purpose for a long time. Whatever it is, I think I have one now,” Stevens has said. “Power Forward gives me something to look forward to every day.”

The event had a lasting impact on students, faculty, and staff in attendance. TCG˛ĘƱ Head Hockey Coach and emphasized the significance of Stevens’ message:

“It was a great opportunity to have former NHL All-Star Kevin Stevens on campus discussing his journey through recovery. The message was one that was not lost on the audience. If it connects with just one student, the event was a success! We are planning additional speaker events for the semester.”

With this successful kickoff to the speaker series, the aims to continue bringing influential figures to campus, providing students with stories of perseverance, resilience, and inspiration.

Stevens’ visit served as a powerful reminder that even the greatest challenges can be overcome—and that everyone has the ability to find their purpose.
